Interesting Cocoa Facts


On average it takes a cacao tree 5 years to produce its first cocoa beans. Each tree produces around 1,000 beans per year.


Cacao trees can range from 13-26 feet tall, sometimes reaching as high as 32 feet.


The annual cocoa production is 3 million tons world wide. More than 70% of all cocoa comes from West Africa. However, because cocoa trees are so delicate, farmers lose, on average, 30% of their crop.


It takes about 400 cocoa beans to make a pound of chocolate. It is said that the first chocolate bar was produced in 1848.
